MAY 26 & 27, 2006

Dear Friends,

THE QUILT: A Breast Cancer Support Project is in its 8 th successful year. In the past seven years, we have based our fundraising efforts around the donation and auction of quilts. Five years ago one of our volunteers said “Let’s have a quilt-a-thon, why not”? The Tango Quilting Marathon was born.

Starting at noon on Friday May 26 th and running until 6 p.m. Saturday May 27 th , we will be holding the Fifth Annual Tango Quilting Marathon . We hope to have for each time slot a minimum of 6 and a maximum of 16 men and women quilting together in a traditional quilting bee.

We are looking to you, the quilters (beginners welcome too!) , to volunteer your time, either as a team or as individuals. Quilting will take place in 3-hour blocks at THE QUILT Project at 55 Downie Street , Stratford (between Tourism Stratford and the Avon Theatre in the former Shoppers Drug Mart location).

There is a $10.00 entry fee and you will be asked to collect pledges that will go to
THE QUILT: A Breast Cancer Support Project . As a charitable organization we are be able to issue tax receipts for 2006 pledges of $25 or more. Please make sure you mark the tax receipt column with a yes or no. Each person is asked to raise a minimum of $100.00 so we can beat last year’s final tally of $16,000.00. If you would prefer not to collect pledges, simply pay the $10.00 registration fee and make a $100.00 donation to THE QUILT Project, in turn we will issue a tax receipt to you for $100.00.

Your participation will be rewarded with prizes given during each time slot and a Grand Prize for the top fundraiser. In addition to your free season’s pass to THE QUILT Project Exhibition, you will be fueled with endless coffee and treats provided by our sponsor, Tango Coffee Bistro and maybe even a wee massage to ease those tired muscles.

To make this project successful, we need your quilting skill, energy, enthusiasm and time. The deadline for registration is SOON…April 30th , 2006.

Come and join us for a very unusual quilting experience in downtown Stratford . Be sure to sign up early to get your preferred quilting time. Call Rita at THE QUILT Office at (519) 272-2588 to book your time slot or get more information.

We look forward to hearing from you. Remember, your donations help ensure that we “ Don’t let anyone face breast cancer alone!

With kind regards,

Amy Brennan Co Chair

Irene Miller Co Chair

Please Note: Only those who collect $100 in pledges will receive the annual Marathon T-shirt and goodie bag.

Northcott 30 Hour Quilt Marathon News

The Northcott Quilting Marathons raised $35,000 in 2005 allowing THE QUILT to continue its work collecting, exhibiting and auctioning quilts. Fundraising events, such as the Northcott marathons help to raise awareness, reminding us of the importance of community and support when faced with the diagnosis “You’ve got cancer.” Our goal is to make sure we "don't let anyone face breast cancer alone".  The quilting bee is one of the oldest forms of support for women. Thank you for keeping it alive!

THE QUILT

Block Challenge Kit

For the third year, Northcott has donated fabric from their Quest for a Cure TM fabric line. The fabric is divided into kits and sold at THE QUILT exhibits. The completed blocks returned from these kits are used to make tops that are quilted in our marathons.
