books including "Reversible Quilts" and "Sensational
Sashiko". The techniques in these two books will be
the subject of the workshops. Saturday night you can enjoy

and your fellow quilters.

This
year we have combined celebrities touched by cancer with the
creative talent of quilt artists.
Singer
Melissa Etheridge, Actress Lyn Redgrave, Canadian Idol Kalan
Porter, the late Al “King of Kensington” Waxman,
artist Judy Chicago,
Olympian Peggy Fleming and Stratford Actor Willian Hutt are
some of the notable people whose signature and/or personal
mementos have been incorporated into a number of quilts that
will be exhibited and auctioned off.

original watercolour of the 2005 Season Image
will
be auctioned at the Gala Auction in Stratford
on
November 12, 2005 at the Avon Theatre.
Marion
has worked part-time as a costume decorator at the Stratford
Festival
and
her paintings are in private collections across Canada
and
the United States, in England,
France and Italy.
Her
work can be viewed at Carriage House Studio on 51 York St,
or

Sheila
McCarthy was on hand to emcee the afternoon. Sheila and her
family were featured on the 2004 poster.

Over
200 quilt donors came to have a sneak preview of the 151 quilts
in the Stratford Exhibit before it opened to the public on
May 20, 2005.
Mayor
Dan Mathieson welcomed everyone to Stratford.

Lise Ledermueller and Susan Elliott organized the event. (picture

Patti
Carey, of Northcott fabrics in Toronto, has been a sponsor
of THE QUILT for many years. This year she has taken that
involvement one step further and announced that Northcott
was taking the Quilting Marathon National. Already 10 quilting
stores have signed on to host a marathon from Newfoundland
to Saskatchewan.

Shelley
Markland, the passionate executive director of Wellspring
in London explained how Wellpring supports men and women and
families with a cancer diagnosis through coping programs.
In 2004 THE QUILT gave the first grant of $20,000 and are
hoping to continue this association.

Shelley
introduced Anne Reinhardt, board chair of Wellspring in London
who grew up in Stratford. Anne presented a plaque to Barbara
Jesson, Chair of THE QUILT, as a public acknowledgement.

Dr.
Pam Catton from the Princess Margaret Hospital introduced
the new Breast Cancer Survivorship Program at the hospital.
In 2004 THE QUILT gave $40,000 to this project.
